Setting Up VPN: Issues Starting Up RasMan and SstpSvc
Hello, I previously posted my problem here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/30ab6e30-06be-48ba-af98-29445ff8a25f?prof=required I've been trying to set up VPN, but RasMan refused to start up. SstpSvc says it "started and then stopped." I've tried importing clean registry values as per this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/05af6a02-c3d9-42fb-80f3-1119ede089fd However, still no luck, same results. Can someone help me out?

Are you trying to setup VPN via third party tools or in the wizard of Windows 7? You may disable the antivirus and firewall. If the issue does not occur after that, you may try to adjust the configurations for the security programs. However if the issue still occurs when security programs are disabled and you are trying to create VPN connection with the system build-in tool, you may need to do In-place Upgrade to repair the system.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hello Arthur, I am trying to set up VPN using the built in Windows 7 VPN Configuration Tool. Antivirus and Firewall are both shut off. Does performing an in-place upgrade wipe my partition/data?

Hi,Generally after In-place Upgrade your personal data and installed programs will not be changed. However I still recommend that you backup your important data before doing that for that case that unexpected issues are encountered.Arthur Xie - MSFT
