Servicepack3 uninstall
My Dell1501 Inspiron is running slower and slower with symptoms as follows (as well as Missig out the occaional charater...as this example)...Running Windows Home edition 5.1.2600 SP3 build2600..C:/windows has many many files $NtUninstallKB******$ ....I cant help think they should not be there...what are they...are they from SP updates and failed to erase??alsolooking at the system info/software environment/startup programs...there are manyduplicated progs running (can't identify the applications) but the users are listed as both 'NT Authority system' AND 'Default'. could this be the reason when I open a Word or Excel file the system tells me the file is already being used and do I want to make a copy. I always click No.also Windows error reporting log shows many system Hangs???also I often loose connectivity with my internet server which the Explorer recovers automatically.Any ideas please or do I take it to a shop for a drains-upThanks 1 person needs an answerI do too

The $NtUninstallKB******$ folders and the files they contain would be needed if you wanted to unininstall the corresponding Windows update (i.e. with the same KB number) and roll back the system to before the update. If you are sure that you would never want to uninstall Windows updates, you can delete thse folders, except for the one C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$. However they do not take up much disk space and I recommend you leave them alone. They have nothing to do with whatever problems you are encountering. NT AUTHORITY and DEFAULT are different system user components. What you see at system info/software environment/startup programs, is normal and again not the source or symptom of your problems. I suggest that you do the following to try and clean up your PC: 1. Make sure that your system is free of viruses and malware, by scanning it with your updated antivirus appp and with a couple of (free) antimalware applications: Malwarebyte, Superantispyware are recommended. After installing them let them update before scanning. Let them fix anything they find. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php http://www.superantispyware.com/ 2. In Internet Explorer/ Internet Tools, delete your temporary internet files. 3. Defragment your hard drive. 4. Use msconfig startup tab and uncheck unneeded applications that start when Windows is started. If you don't know what the items refer to, you can look up at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/ which also gives recommendations. 5. click start, run type sfc /scannow [note space between c and /], click OK. Let the system file check complete (it may ask for your XP CD). Alternatively, in Windows Explorer, right click on your C:\ drive, properties, tools tab, Error checking, click check now, check the first box (fix system files), click OK. Answer yes to the message that comes up and restart your PC. Chkdsk will run and fix any system files that may have been corrupted, then Windows should load.
