Server has internet, but no Computer on network does, help?
Hi, we have a server running Win 2008sbs with win 2008r2 virtual server on top. Up until a couple of days ago, it was well basically okay, although server keep dropping IP number for DNS from one of its network adaptors, but we have seemed to have fixed that. But problem is now, that no PC on network here, be it client PC's running Win 7 or Laptops running Vista that connect wireless, have internet access, on client PC's they cannot find the Netgear router, yet Server can and I can access the server's folders from client PC's, so that is even more strange. I do a diagnose on one of the client PC's adaptors and I get a message saying Local Area conneciton doesnt have a Valid IP configuation. Any suggestions or help, thanks Philhttp://www.pmassociates.com.au/

Thanks for suggestions and post Sabrina, Problem was on our sbs 2008 server, one of the network adaptors had changed the IP number for teh DNS to 192.168.0.2, when we had set it as 192.168.2.2 This was under properties of IPV4. We cannot work out why that happened, but touch wood, it hasn't since Monday. If I coudl ask for your assistance again, we have a few client PC's on network here, one of them when we were running sbs2003 on old box, we had it set up that a staff member could log into server from log in screen of Windows XP, by changing the computer details to PMA.net ( which is what we called on old box our network) instead of logging into clienttwo. I know one should connect client PC's to network using the \\connect in web broswer, but as this is only Box running XP Pro, I can't get it to, for some reason. It's user name is office and I have an account user on sbs2008 set up for office. I've tried the option of using the connect wizard and saving it to a USB key and running that on XP PC, but it asks for a log in informaiton, password, am I right in saying that would be office and the password I have set on Server for Office user? Is this making sense? Actually I need to get this client pc to get access to the shared folders on the virtual drive running windows 2008r2, not sure if I have said this before, but how we set new box up was running sbs2008 and then on a virtual server win 2008r2. Any suggestions I would appreciate I'm learning about 2008 as I go, it is a bit different to 2003 is it not? Cheer and thanks Phil http://www.pmassociates.com.au/

Hi Phil, Thank you for your response. Regarding accessing the shared folders on the virtual drive running Windows 2008 R2, as this issue is more server related, in order to get the answer effectively, it is recommended to submit a new question in Windows Server Forum. The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding. You’re most welcome to ask Windows 7 related questions here.
