Serious Error - Driver
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with Windows XP, it's about 6 years old so out of warranty. I switched over from Sky broadband to Virgin on 10th December and ever since then it keeps shutting itself down, when I swich it back on it says there has been a serious error, and when I report it to microsoft it brings up a web page which says there has been a problem with a driver. I have spoken to Virgin who say it is nothing to do with their modem or software. I used the Dell driver reset tool, and then I got a box coming up to say I needed to install new hardware a "multi media audio controller", but the sound still worked. I went onto the Dell website and installed an audio driver for my PC, and now it's stopped saying I need to install the audio controller but it still keeps shutting down and I get the serious error message. I tried doing the Dell driver reset tool again but it says their aren't any errors. Can anyone help please?1 person needs an answerI do too

Hello, Thanks for your reply. I tried method 1 above but the box was already unticked, and the computer has still been switching itself off.I found the event below: Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 805677bb, parameter3 ec41dc7c, parameter4 00000000.But when I searched for this on the internet it says that one of my drivers is not compatible with XP. I followed the instructions to check all of my drivers via the device manager but none have been disabled and all appear to be compatible with XP.I have installed service pack 3, but am still experiencing the original problem. Is there anything else I can do?Thanks
