Hello, I have a remote user using his Exchange 2003 mailbox via OWA and he is stating when he sends emails in Chinese, the characters appear correctly on his screen however on the recipients' end all they see are a string of '????' & '!!!' marks along with some alpha characters mixed in: See example below: ??: ??!??????????????? 11?5????????????Matt????,?5??6???????,??????????????????????CNCA????????pilot project???? ????????????????????????? ???????! My initial thought of course is he has Mandarin set on his computer but the recipients do not and would like some confirmation this is correct. If not, please advise. Thank you...

My initial thought of course is he has Mandarin set on his computer but the recipients do not and would like some confirmation this is correct. If not, please advise. Thank you... I'm an American ExPat, living in Taiwan. I don't have Mandarin 'set' on my computer in any particular way. What I have is all US configured operating systems with Chinese keyboards installed so I can type Manderin. I send bits of Mandarin to friends in various countries and I can see from their replies that the can read it without any trouble. (Mostly I send Happy Birthday which is .) I assume you can read that as Mandarin and not garbage. The same is true for e-mail I send. I would suggest you have your user check his 'sent items' box to verify if somehow his computer, web browser, or Exchange server, are not all configured to support double byte characters. (UTF-8 encoding.) That would certainly create the garbage you quoted. Whenever I use a simple editor like notepad (or similar) and I save a file with nice Mandarin in it but don't remember to specify that it be stored in UTF-8 encoded format, it turns into garbarge just like your remote user is seeing. So, that's where I'd look first. Jim Kay

Hi Jim, Just wanted to let you know this issue was resolved by adding 'Install Files for East Asian Languages' on under Regional and Languages on my W2003 Exchange server and also by adding all the Chinese language Locales in Exchange System Manager. Thanks for your replies...
