Sell a PC with Win 7 installed
I installed and activate on a new laptop a Win 7 Ultimate license obtained from my TechNet subscription. Since I change very often my PCs it could happened that I'll sell that PC in a short-term. The question is: - Can I sell it without formatting and reinstalling original OS (Vista home)? In other words is the license nominative or not? - In case it should be possible how my buyer can demonstrate to be legitimate owner of Win 7 license (of course I have not label of authenticity to give to him because TechNet offers activation keys only)? Thanks

Hi epik,You can find more info about Technet licensing restrictions here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms772427.aspx#generalI am not a lawyer, and I am not a licensing expert. My personal interpretation of the US license is that in the scenario you describe, no, you would not be allowed to transfer that license. This is based on 2 points in the FAQ: 1) The license is good for evaluation purposes only. 2) You are the only user that is entitled to use these resources.Note: The licensing restrictions may be different in different parts of the world. I got to the link above by going to technet.microsoft.com, clicking on "technet subscriptions", clicking on the "support" tab", then clicking on the "Frequently Asked Questions" link under Subscriber Downloads Support. If you're not based in the US, you should check the FAQ for your region. There's also a link there to ask follow up questions if it's still not clear after reading the doc.Hope this helps,MarkWant to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? Ok. Now I'm very confused... Does it mean that I can't transfer a single software of my subscription, but I can transfer my subscription at all?

Epik - I think your best bet is to send email to the address mentioned in the FAQ.Want to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? Check out these links: **Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ** **Microsoft Logo'd Hardware List**

Hi epikThe licensing agreement between you and Technet Subscriptions is a legal document and we should not be discussing or offering advice about legal issues here.I am removing some of the posts, including my own, since they only contain opinions. I left Mark's posts because they are the only advice that makes any sense. Please contact Technet and they will be able to help you with this issue.Sorry for any misunderstanding. Ronnie Vernon MVP
