I was having problems with my new computer (HP Envy m6, running windows 8). It was not signing me out properly and would not shut down. I thought that maybe I just needed to update the windows software. But upon updating the software and turning my computer back on it gave me a black screen with one blue box that says "Selected boot image did not authenticate. Press <Enter> to Continue. If I press Enter the computer the computer turns off (turning back on displays the same message). If left on nothing changes and it will continue to run the computer.

This upsets me because there is no way I have a virus because I'm running Norton 360 and anything I have downloaded was completely legitimate.

Use the system recovery (F11) in automatic mode, all your data and programs remain
cause of the error was dead bootloader

I have the same problem.  But after a full recover in the F11 system recovery, it still gives the same message.  My problems started after Windows 8 installed a hotfix over the past weekend.  I had the computer for 4 days and now I cant figure out how to get it back to life again :(

Problem solved

In BIOS you must disabled SecureBoot option and enabled LEGACY boot mode. That's all.

what is bios and how do you get into it my sons computer is having same issues its brand new and been on for about 4 hrs,when we press enter it shuts down when turned back on it goes back to the same message "selected boot did not authenticate" have tried f-11 nothing happens?????

Sorry to bump this, but I'm experiencing the same issue and these answers aren't helpful to me. I'm not very computer smart and I have no idea what "BIOS" are and what not. Please someone help me with an easier to understand way of how to fix this. I've only had this laptop for a week and this is already happening its very frustrating.

Also I don't quite understand how F11 could help.... F11 on this laptop is sound off?

EDIT: Okay I did what Tiger said (enable Legacy) and now it gives me a bluescreen telling me my PC needs to be repaired and the digital signature could not be verified.

Can't anyone help?

Same problem, please help. I've tried bios change legacy boot, F11 system repair System restore, system refresh, tried it all with no luck. Still get same error, Or blue screen in legacy boot says computer needs repaired, no kidding! Really can't Get this figured out and need computer for office work ASAP.

I have the same problem, tried all the above solutions but still computer reads my pc needs to be repaired. If i knew this was going to happen, i would have just stayed on Windows 7. I have lost two hours of valuable work just before my HP g7 decided to act the goat and update itself to non-working mode.
