Select Wired or Wireless during bootup
I have an Acer Netbook with 2 network adaptors: 1 wired, 1 wireless. At a previous employer, the company issued XP laptop had the same setup. The machine was able to select the proper network adaptor at bootup. If attached to an ethernet cable, it selected the wired adaptor and turned off the radio. If there was no ethernet cable plugged in at bootup, it selected the wireless adapyot and searched for a known WAP. Is there a method for setting this up in XP or is this capability restricted to two-way adaptors? 1 person needs an answerI do too

It seems some laptop manufactuers have software that does this. For example, Toshiba has ConfigFree. I'd recommend contacting Acer directly and see if they have similar software. If you're looking for a Microsoft solution, I'd recommend changing the priority of your network adapters. This won't disable the radio, but if Windows sees a wired connection, it will use that over a wireless connection. See the instructions below from this KB article: How to change the binding order of network adapters Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl , and then click OK.You can see the available connections in the LAN and High-Speed Internet section of the Network Connections window. On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings, and then click the Adapters and Bindings tab. In the Connections area, select the connection that you want to move higher in the list. Use the arrow buttons to move the connection. Hope that helps! Cody C Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
