Security issue with laptop harddrive.
My laptop died and I had to get another one. I had data that I need to get off the drive so I hooked it up through a USB drive. However, when I try to take control of the user directory, I get a message saying that I cannot see the contents
of the drive and several cannot change permissions messages. It will not let me change the permissions. What is the best way to get to the data.

Hi,
Thank for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
Based on my understanding, you want to move user directory to your USB drive, but the old laptop don’t allow you to do this.
in this situation, you could try to take the ownership of this folder, please refer to:
Take Ownership of a File or Folder
Hope it helps.
