Sounds like the update is needed for WMP versions 9-11. Win7 has version 12 by default, which seems to be not affected. I can't find the "Security Update for Windows 7 Release Candidate (KB973540)" part though, seems to be only 2000-Vista systems are affected, and win7 is not affected. Don't know how you got the update for win7 RC, um, virus scan, maybe you got something weird?Hello! Hi Joelbx,im talking about virus if thats a virus,i wonder if theres anyway to check it from windows update package folders what has been installed or in any logfile that shows whats been installed thats what im asking,i just want to check what changes that update caused to my pc cause that update looks like something critical for what i read and im just worried if that installed exactly the oposite thing of the update proposal!!!or even something else masked with that KB number ,or if it could be any change ive made in windows registry according to windows 2003 or NT 4.0 records so the updater interpreted my system as being affected which i dont believe in that...i need some help to check the windows update folders to find the exactly GUI used by that update...now paranoia just goes overwhelming and im even thinking that my anti virus is screwed cause i recently received options to install a newer version of MSE A-V and even the icon in system tray changed which is a cool one and looks legitimate but guess i cant judge by the icon ...so i decided to post some updates after the version update so you guys can get me some directions!!!PS: since MSE version update i ve been receiving AV updates duplicated i mean 2 at once knowing that every single day i update windows that looks a bit odd but i'd like to believe thats a normal thing and just a mere coincidence!!!here are the latest updates after MSE version upgrade:Microsoft Security Essentials product version update package - KB972958 Installation date: 20/08/2009 12:39 Installation status: Successful Update type: Optional This package will update Microsoft Security Essentials product version on user machine. As the MS bulletin says, win7 is not affected by this security hole in WMP, only 2000-Vista is. If you want to see the uninstall routines for windows updates, or update logs, look through C:\WINDOWS. Don't blame ya about being worried about this update.... Each definition update you listed has a different version #, each one later than the one before, that means the definitions went through another update so as to catch more viruses, so don't worry about that!Hello! Hi kat,why are you always suspecting someone is taking over your pc? Relax! The update you spoke of (KB973540) is important for all machines that use programs with unsafe ATL code from MS (most popular, recently: Adobe Flash, huge security leak). So, it helps your security needs and isn't against them.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Hi Sanmartin, now you just embarassed me and i feel like you might be taking me as a crazy dude which is not true and i can prove you im a 24hrs target of hkrs, its a long story and if you maybe want to know more about i can talk in privte to you!!!(maybe if i post the pfirewall.log you 'll believe me)anyways the only reason why im worried about is that the other pc didnt install that update and its got flash player installed as well but unlike my main pc it doesnt have silver light ,Lightwave 3d nor quick player thats the only dif between one and other so maybe thats why didnt install that update for the other pc...and the other reason why i was wondering is that the update doesnt apply to Windows 7 as i read the summary so if thats ok and no need to be worried about im fine with that , my pc is running smootly ,internet as well and everything looksin a pretty good shapefrom here!!Kind regards,RR
