HiThe error 80072EFE comes back as Internet_Connection_Aborted.This could have been a temporary problem with your internet connection or a Windows Update server issue.I would reboot, make sure your internet connection is stable and then try the update again.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Experiencing the same problem here, also with Win 7 RC (64-bit). I even downloaded the update manually (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=294de390-3c94-49fb-a014-9a38580e64cb&displaylang=en), this downlaods and runs but displays the message: "VC Libraries QFE Patch does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your system. Please click the link below for more details." (The link directs to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971092). Although the download page doesn't specify Win7 it's the exact same size as Windows Update specifies the update to be so I assume they are the same.

It seems to be working this morning. I guess the servers were under a cloud yesterday.

Please see thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vbgeneral/thread/3b465fe1-d82f-4c80-90ab-eeab2e11d20c and MSConnect report https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=478117 It appears that if VS2008 is installed without the C++ components then the update fails. If the update has failed for you, please go to the MSConnect report and leave a note if you are in the same situation.

For me the issue was the download itself (it was stuck at 55% for quite a while, before deciding to fail as above each time I tried it). I don't know about others, but this situation does not occur on retrying today, so I assume in my particular instance, a server issue that has since been resolved.

There's a workaround at Microsoft Connect website https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/Workaround.aspx?FeedbackID=478117 It produced a warning message in the middle of the installation but eventually worked.

Try to connect to another ISP and install this update, also temporarily delete or disable your antivirus and firewall software.

Hi, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Boot the system to a Clean Boot Environment and update again.. Clean boot ================= 1) Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2) Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3) Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab. In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please check if this update can be install at this time. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. 2. Please try the single installation package and see how it works: Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 ATL Security Update Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
