Security Update causes loss of Activation Key
I received several (7) security updates to Win7 earlier tonight, after installing, received notice that my copy of Windows7 is not genuine and have to install a valid activation code. Have been running copy of Win 7 since a day or 2 after release without a problem. Tried to reactivate and refused to take code. Can you guide me as to what I should do next? I did try and uninstall all the updates and do a system restore neither eliminated the problem.

I finally was able to get through to Activation support late last night. Apparently the same problem has occured with some of the updates when they validate windows before installing. Had to go reset the program flag back to "day one", install the product code as if the software had just been installed, and all is now well. The Tech support individual said this is the only thing they have found that will work and not cause more problems. At least now it is working.Steve

Hi, I would like to know what error message you received when trying to activate Windows? To verify if your copy of Windows is genuine, please run the following site. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/DownloadValidationSupport.aspx?displaylang=en Please understand the genuine issue only can be caused by corrupted or invalid license. If you have valid product key, I suggest you clear the current license and then re-activate Windows 7 to check the result. 1. Click Start -> type CMD in the search box -> in the list, right click CMD and run as administrator 2. In the open window, copy and paste the following command one by one net stop sppsvc cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform rename tokens.dat tokens.bar cd %windir%\system32 net start sppsvc Note: if you receive any error, please let me know. After that, restart the computer twice. 3. Click Start button, type slui 4 and press Enter to access Windows Activation 4. Choose the location and you will see the phone number and the installation ID 5. You should enter the installation ID when you call the phone and it will give you the confirmation ID to enter. Note: You can write down the confirmation ID and then enter it for the computer. Or contact Activation Center trough http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929/en-us Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
