Security Essentials
Pleased to see that Security Essentials yesterday removed 1) VirTool:JS/Obfuscator.Mcontainerfile:C:\Users\zz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\G6PHQ596\xx[1].htmfile:C:\Users\zz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\G6PHQ596\xx[1].htm->(SCRIPT0008) 2) Trojan:JS/Redirectorcontainerfile:C:\Users\zz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YT5P0L3Y\gnh4[1].htmfile:C:\Users\zz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YT5P0L3Y\gnh4[1].htm->(SCRIPT0000) This is the first time I have ever seen A/V software do anything, Wondering if a) Any damage could have been done - I have been to same site before Security Essentials & never had notification with One Care online checkups. S.E. yesterday acted immediately & took me out of I.E. 8. b) Should I remove latest Java 6.17 which I do not really need?c) This may be jointly due to Adobe Reader install which included Adobe Air that I did not ask for or know was installed but have just seen now when looking for Java version.

Hi TheGonzoIsIn, a) Since the files removed were located in Temporary Internet Files folder, no damaged could have been done. The files in Temporary Internet Files folder are temporary files. b) I don’t suggest you remove Java 6.17 due to some websites need its support. If you remove it, some websites may not be displayed normally. c) Adobe Air should be installed with Adobe Reader. It helps you update the Adobe software. For more information about Adobe Air, you may contact Adobe Support for more information. Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. The website that you have entered might have some Malware in certain links. It might be real Malware or it is something that behave like Malware and detect by MSE.As long as it been removed then there is no problem. OneCare and MSE have same Malware protection engine. It is possible that this Malware was in part of website. I also notice that from the remove link you were using InPrivate Browsing in IE8 . If that is case after close your browser all contain of website that you have been visited will remove. I don't suggest to remove Java it will use in many websites but go and check and make sure your java is update. Sun released certain securirt update for Java , make sure you update them.

Thank you for response. Yes, I always use InPrivate. This brings up a related suggestion that occurs to me; when running Windows 7 U. 64 Bit on other partition I have pinned the 64 Bit Internet Explorer icon to task bar. While 32 Bit Internet Explorer icon right click allows starting the browser InPrivate (a useful feature), it does not for the 64 Bit.
