Security Component Upgrade for Media Player Won't Work; Help!
I'm trying to download audio books using Overdrive, and I have done absolutely everything to try to get the Media Player security upgrade to work. Every time, I get the response "The component cannot be upgraded," but absolutely no explanation.I've tried it from both the website and the Overdrive tool bar (I get no response at all from the Overdrive tool bar.)I've tried re-naming the DRM folder. I've tried clearing the cache on the DRM folder and deleting everything in the folder. I've tried installing a new version of media player.I've tried re-working msconfig startup (following instructions I found on a different forum)I've tried removing my firewall to allow the website to work.I've added the drmlicense website as a trusted site.I am completely at my wit's end. Please help!1 person needs an answerI do too

ME TOO. I've tried all those things plus more. I've tried everying. I am trying to upgrade from 2.5.0.0 to 2.5.0.1 so that my f***ing zune software works. I'm convinced the problem is that the website (as well as the overdrive software) need to open windows media player during the upgrade process. the media player never opens. I'm also on an Acer laptop and from reading many forums with similar problems I think this is important.MICROSOFT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND"plays for sure" ha!Acer Aspire 1810TWindows Home Professional 64 bitMedia Player 12

I solved this problem!! (at least for me). I actually had given up on the problem. Last night I went through a convoluted process to replace WMP 12 with WMP 11 (made more difficult that I have a 64 bit system, but was able to hack WMP 11 to work by following another forum). When I got the same error I said that was enough and gave up. BUT.... today I took my laptop to work and thought I'd try one more time.... :)Opened IE in admin mode, went to the website, clicked the button and low and behold it worked, 1st try! My zune software works!I don't know what is the key factor, but try taking your computer (hopefully it's a laptop) to another router/modem/hotspot.At home, I chose "home location" in the connection dialogue, and at work I chose "work/office". Not sure if that's important. Good luck all!
