Security Center should be able to re-enable Defender firewall if firewall is detected missing (turned off)
Not all software is perfect. From time to time I've seen several major Antivirus/Firewall app's shutdown automatically due to one reason or the other (eg updates). I have come home to no AV/FW running and the computer apparently 'at risk'. Window's can detect when the Firewall isn't active, it would make sense to have a way for Window's to take action on it's own (if wanted) to re-enable it's own firewall if Security Center detect's a failure. /thx

I am using Microsoft Security Essentials fine. I have also used AVG fine. Less experience with others. I suggest uninstalling whatever you are using now, and reinstall it fresh. Like I said, no software will work perfectly and often can require user input to re-enable after auto-updates etc. Security needs a failsafe, even major software companies. It's not a matter of re-install or only a single user experience... AVG, Kaspersky, Bitdefender. All fresh install's, all have failed at some point, mainly when away from the computer for day's at a time. /thx

My system is running fine at moment. I'll try to remember sfc later if I get weird behavior. Anyways I guess this post is mostly about (feature suggestion) further Window's improvement's, possibly for later consideration. Last time I found my computer unprotected was because Kaspersky performed auto-update and required a restart to complete. So an event like this isn't Window's related, but does cause consideration for alarm (especially for non-techie users) if setting's might not be configured properly. If something like these addition to the Security Center was implemented (it maybe already being considered?) it would vastly (imo) improve reliability for user's concerned about this. if firewall not detected OR detected shutdown for any reason (auto-update, malicious software, poor software etc) 1) SC can be configured to launch Defender Firewall 2) SC can be configured to auto-shutdown system until user can take care of the issue personally. thanks

I have code in my collection that can force a Windows reboot if I want it too. I rarely need to call that function as 90% of my code is application, not services and drivers. Can you confirm that you can forward this request to Security department please. Yes I love Window's, it's great but not all third party software is as great. (I'm not sure how your reply relates to my request) much thanks.
