Security Center can not be turned on
My system tray keeps showing me the flagged message "Turn on Windows Security Center service (Important)" but when I click, it says "The Windows Security Center service can't be started." Then, I manually starting the services.msc - by clicking on properties, choosing automatic and even manual then clicking start, but although the security center will list the status as started and auto or manual within seconds I get the flag again and "can't be started" when I go back to services the settings have reverted back to "disabled" . I'm running Windows 7, with Norton Internet Security, I am myself a PC technician and know my way around windows but this has me stumped. I checked for the file "wscui.cpl in c:\Windows\system 32 and it is there, I've run several virus scans and have even used your "One Care Safety Scan" and neither has found anything (With the exceptiona tracking cookie).

Hi, 1. How long have you been facing this issue? 2. Did you make any recent hardware or software changes on your computer prior to this issue? Step 1: This might be because of security softwares installed on the computer. Temporarily disable security software’s and check if the issue persists. Make sure to enable those security software's on the computer after checking. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software If disabling the security software resolves the issue then, please contact the specific security software manufacturer to resolve the issue. Important These steps may increase your security risk. These steps may also make the computer or the network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We recommend the process that this article describes to enable programs to operate as they are designed to or to implement specific program capabilities. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this process in your particular environment. If you decide to implement this process, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the system. We recommend that you use this process only if you really require this process. Step 2: Check if the issue persists in clean boot state. Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Try the steps provided under Step 1 in the below article to put your computer in clean boot mode. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Also, please disable your Norton Internet Security temporarily.

Click on start, right click on My computer, click on Manage, Click on services and application, Click on services, Click on Security center, check the security center properties, check the status of service, Adjust the start type to manual, if it is stopped click on start. If service status is started , click on stop and start again.I think you will be ok by now.
