Secondary HDD (D:) Spin-Up on Remote Desktop Connection
System-Configuration:- 2 PCs wich Windows 7 Professional on it- Connection through Gigabit-LAN- The system I connect to (via RDP) has 2 physical HDDs in itWhen I connect to the system with 2 HDDs in it, the secondary hard drive (D:) spins up (from power-saving). This is kind of weird, because I can not think of any reason why this should happen.Looking at it with Sysinternals Process Monitor shows, that each time when I open a RDP connection Explorer.exe accesses D:\ (CreateFile, QueryNameInformation, QueryAttributeInformation, CloseFile) and the recycle bin on D:\Is there any solution that D:\ (the second physical) hard drive stays in power saving mode when I connect via RDP - or is there at least a reason for this to happen? In the RDP client it is NOT set that any local ressources should be mapped to the host.

Why not just disable any power saving on the drives?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. By marking a post as Answered, or Helpful you help others find the answer faster.]

I want power-saving enabled, the second drive should stay powered-off.

It is by design. Because when any user remotely connect, all hard drives need to be accessible.Arthur Xie - MSFT
