Search string contains a dash
Hey guys, I wanna search for exactly that string "69-100" within Word documents. Win7 search returns docs containing 69, 69-200... How can I find only the docs that contain exactly 69-100? Thanks Andi

Use quotes around the search criteria: "69-100" including the quotes.

If you want to search for the exact string, first go to the particular folder and then go to Tools > Folder Options... After that click on the Search tab and uncheck the checkbox highlighted in the screenshot below: This setting will ensure that you find the exact string and not partially matching results. Please revert back here if you need further assistance. Hope it helps!Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast | My first TechNet Wiki Article

Thanks a lot but unfortunately no success. :-/ find partial matches is unchecked and my search for "69-100" continues to return docs containing 69-200 for instance...

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. I had a short test on it, I put the folder contained 69-100 on desktop and the result is fast and proper. At this point, please make sure the folder has been indexed. When searching in Windows Explorer, please navigate to the folder those files are saved and then search for 69-100. If it does not work, please open indexing Options, Advanced, rebuild indexing to check the result. Best Regards Magon Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Hi Magon, thanks for comment. I've tested a bit an found this conclusion: it works on a local system, it works on a fileshare (server: W2K8, fileserver role and windows search role service installed) volume indexed, folder shared. But it doesn't work on our main fileserver (2-node W2K8, virtual fileserver resources) with indexed volumes. I put my testfolder (69-100) on a volume that wasn't indexed yet. Added the index, connected the share to my local system and started the search - unfortunately no success. Might be a cluster<->index problem? Kind Regards Andi

I'm having problems with my Windows Search too - it does not find required files even though the location is indexed. Any ideas? Thanks! Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast | My first TechNet Wiki Article

Hi Andi, According to your situation, it only occurs to data on file server. Given this, I would like to confirm if you have make the file on fileserver Offline. Please refer to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Understanding-offline-files for better understanding. Then make sure Offline files are indexed through the Index Options. Sorry for the delay. Meanwhile I startet a Call @ MS and get to know that our problem is "by design". MS Search Service is not cluster aware or rather does not support cluster shares. One option is the activation of client side caching - no option for us. The second way to solve this problem is to implement MS Search Server as a dedicated search solution. Thanks for your support.
