Search redirect viruses not being found by Security Essentials?
I hope this is the right place for this question. Lately I have been hit with search redirects in searches started at either bing or google. Two of the most frequent problems are Scour and Budgetmatch. When I go and do a search - by pasting in the url I want so as to avoid the redirects - I find that they are described as viruses. A full Security Essentials scan has picked up no viruses whatsoever. There are programs to 'remove' them. How do I know that the cure is not worse than the disease? In most cases they are not 'free' as described in the web site. They 'find' things but want money to remove them. Why has Security Essentials not picked these up? What else is it missing? I would rather not have to go to a pay product. I would hope to use the Microsoft-installed product. If I don't get a good resolution by Mon evening, I am going back to a month-old backup where I don't remember having the problem. The problemis becoming intolerable. Are others having this problem?

Hi, as this forum focuses on Windows 7 specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Microsoft security Essentials forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/msestart/threads The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding. Hi Chuck, Search redirect is a browser redirector or so your browser was hijack and in addition you got rogueware aka Fake AV - which is opting to scam you to pay their fake product. Manually i can help you remove it, and for your inquiry with why MSE didn't tagged it yet is for reason its either its brand new or some fake AV just mimics application like console but you're still browsing the web. as Leo said you can always inquire with MSE forums as he has attached in his post. Leo, Sorry for being in the wrong form. From browsing the forums, Win Sexurity seemed the place to be. A nice concise list of forums would be nice. I have moved my question to the MSE forum. It will be interesting to see what they say. Some of the bing posting I can get to indicate that scour and aothers are put there by rootkits. That's scarry. Milo, Any help in getting rid of this crud will be appreciated. I'm at chuckbts77@gmail.com. Thanks to all. I'll close this forum off now. Chuck
