Search from start button reveals e-mail messages stored there.  cannot delete
I have Windows 7 home premium, in a new HP. When I enter TOPO! in search on the start button, it returns the usual good stuff, but also many e-mail messages stored there. I cannot delete them. 952 items. I followed the directions to : start-control panel-typed indexing options in control panel search box-clicked modify, but does not allow changing selected locations. ( Most of this I dont understand. ) My ISP tech help cant help me.

If you simply want to disable the email files from being indexed, follow these steps.First, you need to determine what file type format the emails are using.Perform a search again and in the results, right click one of the emails and select Properties / General Tab.In the Type of file line, you will see the file extension, such as (.eml) Write down the file extension.Open Control Panel / Indexing Options and select the Advanced Button.Select the File Types Tab.Locate the file extension you noted in the previous step and remove the check mark from that extension. Click OK.You may see a message that the search index will be rebuilt. Click OK.Hope this helps. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP
