Try this.
eventvwr.msc
They hide the friendly name "Event Viewer" from working anymore, not sure why, so we need to search for it's real name.
My workaround is to create a shortcut to the eventvwr.msc, name it 'Event Viewer' and pin to start. &n
Ok, that works, but (not directed at Knuckle-Dragger) seriously? This is how XP behaved.
I Pinned Administrative Tools to Start. This 'works' because Explorer will jump across the shortcuts by pressing the first letter of their name.
It's actually a lot easier.
Open start
Charms
Tiles
Show administrative tools.
Done.
Who knew Bill Gates really was the brains behind everything, only been gone a few years and look whats happening. I guess we can always switch to linux. I don't know if my stomach will be able to take it though.
Ah, just noticed that. But it's kind of like playing Let's Make a Deal...What's behind the door marked Settings?
That works, but requires Down, Down, Enter.
Even on the tablet, there's plenty of space to display all the results.
Hmm...interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'll try this for a bit.

Hi
Anything in Control Panel will be considered as a setting. Win8 search opens with the focus on apps.
Use the following keyboard shortcuts for the different Search options.
WinKey+Q = Display the Search bar with Apps selected
WinKey+W = Search Bar with Settings selected
WinKey+F = Display the Search Bar with Files selected

Wonderful, the 90th are back again!
Don't be conservative and forget about visual navigation!
Be "modern" and start memorizing keyboard shortcuts!

Is there any way to combine the "Apps" and "Settings" search results? I really don't see any reason why they are kept separate. And I REALLY don't see why control panel applets come up under "Settings" rather than "Apps".
Hi
The definition of Control Panel is Settings.
This is where all of the settings components are located.

Well, is there a way to change the definition of Conrol Panel then?
Maybe better to ask if anyone knows where these definitions are stored.

There's no way I could switch to Linux (a week to get my WiFi card working? no thanks). As much as it pains me, I'm considering Mac now that I've tried Windows 8.1 -- and I really, really dislike Apple.
Microsoft has way to much design-by-committee when it comes to user experience. This is ridiculous.
And that's the reason why the Windows 8 are called counter-productive for the desktop environment. Please, give me no hidden corners and no charmsMouse:
1. Move the cursor to the corner of the screen to display Charms.
2. Move and click the Search icon.
3. Move and click the Files icon.
4. Move your hand from the mouse to the keyboard and type your search keyword.
From a productivity standpoint, keyboard shortcuts are usually much faster.
