Search/Indexer Configuration
I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and testing Windows 7 Enterprise. Can the search/index service in Windows 7 be configured to point to an Index on a server, that was created by the Microsoft Index Service. The documents on my file server are indexed and I would like users to be able to search the index, preferable with the search included with Windows 7. I've looked on the MS website and checked the advanced index options but can't find a way other than each workstation indexing the file share individually. Thank you. Robert

No, you must install Windows Search 4.0 on the Windows Server 2003 file server and make Windows Search 4.0 index these files. Then your Windows 7 machines will automatically use the remote index on the Server 2003 box when searching for files located on that server.
