Screen saver stays on
My windows 7 system when the screen saver comes on it stays on no matter what I do if I move the mouse or use the key board the only way is to force the machine off then re-boots. Until I get a fix I am just using the turn the monitor off only option, screensaver is set to none this works for now.

If a notebook, does it happen on battery and on AC? I'm not certain, but my guess would be that it has something to do with your power settings. Are they USB mouse and keyboard? If so, check that Power settings> Advanced settings> USB settings> USB Selective Suspend is set to Disabled and see if that works. SC Tom

I went to advanced settings as you said for me to do, I clicked on the advanced settings choose the (USB Selective Suspend is set to Disabled) as you have said to do. Oh! It’s a desktop computer. It didn’t help still won’t wake the monitor? Computer is set for never to sleep or shut down. Thanks SC Tom for your input to my problem. Creed21

Hi Creed21, Check the settings in Device Manager, right click on keyboard and mouse separately, under “Power Management” tab, make sure the box before “Allow this device to wake the computer” is checked. Could you tell us the model of the PC, graphic card and the version of windows? When did this issue occur for the first time? Make sure you have the latest graphic card driver as well as BIOS. This could also occur due to either software conflict or faulty hardware. We can prepare clean boot to troubleshoot. Clean Boot prevents software conflicts by preventing the startup items and non Microsoft services from loading. This way you can safely follow the process of elimination to check which application is causing this behavior. Refer: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: Ensure that you put your computer back to normal startup mode after completing the troubleshooting steps. Steps are available in the article given above.
