Hiya, new to this forum and wasn't sure what section to put this in so just went for miscellaneous :) My laptop recently died, some sort of problem with the hardrive and I gave to a friend of the family to be fixed. He installed a new hard drive into the laptop, and I've just got it back and everything seems to be working fine except the screen is really stretched out, and it seems a little blurry. I've played about with the resolution and display settings with no luck. Any ideas? The guy had to reinstall windows onto my new hardrive, and I've noticed its windows 32 bit, whereas before it was windows 64 bit, and my laptop screen is pretty big - 17.3 inches i think, maybe this has something to do with it? Any help would be appreciated. It wouldn't bother me too much, except all photos and videos are also stretched. Can give a screenshot too if you want. Thanks, Ben.

Sounds like it doesn't have its display adapter drivers installed. (In the Display control panel, does it show the generic Microsoft VGA drivers?) The drivers are best obtained from the notebook manufacturer. As you haven't said what make & model it is, no one can give you a link. I hope that you don't have more than 4GB of RAM installed. 32 bit Windows can't use more than 4GB properly. I also hope that the copy of Windows that's now on the laptop was activated legally (using the certificate of authenticity from the sticker that should be somewhere on the laptop). While we should all be grateful for favors, it sounds like the person who replaced your hard drive wasn't quite as skilled as would be desired. It may be worthwhile to install the 64 bit version. Should be able to just install the proper video driver and solve the problem. If you give us the MAKE and MODEL number of your laptop we can assist you in finding the right driver.
