Screen Resolution
Still having trouble changing fonts, it's stuck on 640 X480. I can change it, but it's unreadable or distorted!

sam - First off, 640x480 is not a font. It's a screen resolution. It's the number of pixels (or dots) you can see across multiplied by the number of lines of pixels from top to bottom. A font would be defined as the typeface - the shape of the letters, numbers and symbols - in all their variations. Now then, 640 x 480 is pretty darn low resolution. But in order to help you sort this out, we need to know a few things about your computer.Specifically:1.) What kind of video card you've got2.) How much video memory that video card has and2.) What kind of monitor you've got.

Your right, it's the resolution, not the font, my bad. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600, with 1 gig of MB ram. I don't know about the video ram, it's just a mother board based video card. All my internal slots are empty, except for the extra ram. My monitor is a 17 LCD Dell standard monitor. It works well with higher resolution in XP. Thanks, Sam

sam98, That is a relatively old machine, and it doesn't appear to have been supported by Dell beyond Windows XP. There are, however, many potential video solutions available according to Dell's website - I'd try identifying exactly which configuration you have, and installing the matching video drivers provided here in compatibility mode for Windows XP. To do this, right click on the program .exe and open the Properties menu, then navigate to the compatibility tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for..."-Alex

Sam - Helps to be on the same page with everyone...I had a look on the Dell web site Alex posted... And I gotta say it's not looking very promising. I think all but one of the video chipsets lists is not supported under Vista or 7. And I could be wrong on that one as well. 1.) Click on the Start Orb 2.) type DEVICE MANAGER in the search box3.) When device manager opens, click the little arrow next to Display Adapter. This will tell you what kind of video chipset your system has. Please post that information so we know what you've got there... You may be needing a cheap video card. Fortunately, a Vista compatible video card can be had for less than $50.

My on board video card is a Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controler. Now thats the one on the motherboard. If I need a standalone, which would you suggest? Thanks!

Sam - Hmm.. Not good... According to Intel's web site, that chipset is neither supported any longer, nor does it have any drivers for Vista, let alone Windows 7. That said, you could, possibly try to jury rig XP drivers, but you'd probably best off getting a video card. Now then, since you asked... You've gotfew options since AGP cards aren't exactly the rage any more. Everything's gone PCIe. You're also likely to be going with either an ATI or Nvidia card since they're the most likely. My Win 7 box has a GeForce 7300 GS PCIe based card and it works flawlessly. I'd almost recommend it to you, but I seem to recall a thread elsewhere in this forum where the guy had an AGP version of the card and it was not working as expected. Never did find out from him if the card was working properly otherwise or not. I'd be looking for an AGP Nvidia card that had a GeForce 6100 or later chipset (anything older and you're back to square one - no drivers) OR an AMD/ATI Radeon card with a 9700 or later chipset. Make sure it's got at least 128 MB of discrete video memory onboard as well.

Hi Sam98, Please try this: 1. Download the driver from the following site: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (zip) Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. 2. After downloading, extract the package to a location. 3. Click Start Button, type Device Manager in Search Bar and press Enter. 4. Navigate to the Display Adapter. 5. Right-click on the Display Adapter and choose Update Driver Software. 6. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option in the opened dialogue box. 7. Click on the Browse button to locate the directory where the package was extracted to. 8. Click Next and follow the wizard to install the driver. 9. Restart your computer and check if it works. Additionally, you can also run Windows Update and see if an driver will be released. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

The normal, safe driver from Intel will do the same thing and maybe even play videos better, I suggest you use Intel's driver and not the one g4qber has listed.
