I had been using the Screen Gadgets since installing Win 7Beta, which I like a lot, but recently the Gadgets have diappeared, cannot find them now, open up Gadgets in control panel gets no responce.The only thing I can think of which changed recently was I got a screen background from MS, nice pastel colouring. Could this have taken out the Gadgets, how do I restore them, include with the background now??

did you turn off UAC? gadgets will not work with UAC disabled.

Yes, I got sick of the constant reminders, so had turned off UAC. I just turned it back On and rebooted, and back came the Gadgets, many thanks, but why should the UAC affect the gadgets, MS may need a rethink for this. We need to be able to turn off most of the reminders, without losing the Gadgets.

i think the main reason is that anybody can create a gadget and upload it to the gadget gallery, and it might contain malicious code that could steal your grocery list or baby pictures or whatever other important stuff you store on your computer ;>)

Then Microsoft needs to re-think the way they allow users to upload/download gadgets. With their current method, I will never be able to use the new Gadgets system because- well UAC is a huge annoyance and I can stay perfectly safe without it.

In build 7048 Gadgets work with UAC off.

I thought they were looking at a way to get around this issue
