Screen Capture

If screen capture tool is provided within the Lync messenger to send the instant screen shots to other users. however, we can send thro attachments but, it would be very very usefull for developers, tester and implementors in various fields to communicate instantly send the screen shot by capturing and other user can see it. Desktop sharing is taking long time to share sometimes.....:)

Hi ,

Currently you wouldn't be able to paste screenshots/pictures on Lync IM chat window directly.

However , you can share a whiteboard and perform above tasks.

Thanks

HI,

You aslo can open the picture first then sharing the program. The participants can see the picture you are sharing.

yes... we are doing the same thing now... sometimes we may required to share only some part of the image, that time we have to take the sanpshot and crop the pic has to send thro attachment and it take time. If you see the IBM Sametime messenger its very usefule when comparing MS Lync.

Indeed it would be nice to be able to paste a picture directly into the text flow, but for now you can paste your cropped picture onto the whiteboard canvas, that's the only current method

My small group (3-8 people) uses Sametime 8.5.2 chat in a real-time environment during our system updates. The screen capture is essental to success. I do not think developers understand what is going on in the real world. We do not capture the whole screen. We capture a detail of it .. most often small (~3"x3").  We save our chats as logs. A time sequenced record of events. The graphics are contextually place in time. The in-line chat snippets are there for everyone to see now and later. Abosulutely critical for check-out and post mortum auditing. Our company is switching to Lync in 2013 from Sametime; 20,000 users. What a disappointment. We a scambling to preserve chat functionality with another product.

A whole screen shot is not important. An in-line detail (like 3"x3") in context with chat it critical. We use chat as a log for later review. Attachments and whiteboards do not help.

I see all the msg are from 2012, do we know if this is resolved in latest version of Lync (2013) ?

Please improve in this screen capture functions from Sametime. Lync is lack of this, it affects a lot. Now, searching for third party app to use. The whiteboard thing... aren't that convenient which is only one click away if we use Sametime.

To help you understand what are we saying, try out Sametime.

Please put effort to understand our request and improvise the software rather than replying alternative to us.

Thank you very much.

Per the latest posts... it seems they don't understand the answer so I'm going to try and clarify it for them and others.  I know exactly what this user wants because my company used SameTime (Lotus Notes) too and you didn't have to jump through hoops to add a portion of a screen shot to your instant message.  However, with Lync, we must deal with the reality that Microsoft has answered by making the same thing possible... but you have to approach it slightly differently:

1. Start a chat with someone

2. Click on "Share" and choose "New White Board" (Share is at top row where it says IM   -   Video   -   Share)

3. A white board opens on the right... now you can cut and paste images to your hearts desire.  If you don't have a cut and paste program loaded on your computer... do a google search for "DuckCapture" and you can download this for free.  It is a great tool for doing partial screen shots and many other features... it's one of the best free tools I use every day.

Once you have the whiteboard open, just right click and paste images on top of it.  Choose "paste as image."  If the person on the other end of your chat has accepted the shared white board, they will see anything you paste there.  It really does work just about as good as SameTime with the exception that you first have to open the whiteboard... but this is really no big deal once you get used to it.

I hope that helps

Saleesh, it would be a huge improvement for lync IM if could copy and paste images in the chat window so that we can follow our conversation and understand what the picture is about. Lotus Notes Sametime has that feature and it's really useful.
Which is the place where we can suggest changes like this one?

Thanks

The ability to send instant screenshots to other developers on my team would be EXTREMELY helpful.  We were using Cisco Jabber prior to upgrading to Office 365 (Office 2013), which had this feature.  I used it many, many times per day to show teammates code snippets or web page behavior without having to wait on them to accept my screen share invitation.  I am officially begging Microsoft to add this feature to Lync.
