Hi,When did this issur first occur? Is there any newly installed software program? If so, system restore could be under consideration. Meanwhile, I was wondering which scan software are you using, windows live photo gallery, Windows fax and scan, or paint. I suggest use the other two program to scan as a test. We will know if it is the scanner or the application that caused the issue.First, in case there contains corrupt temp files, try clearing the temp folder C:\Documents and Settings\"you.user.name"\Local Settings\Temp or type %temp% in "my computers" addres bar.Second, in case ceratin software running background has conflict with the scanning process, boot into clean boot and try again.Clean Boot =============This method will disable loading program or service from start up to avoid conflict 1. Click "Start",and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment.

Here's the answer: I called microsoft support and after a $59 charge they fixed the problem. The solution was to go to control panel, add a new user, give it administrative rights. Then reopen windows under the new user name, and the import box functioned properly. I saved you all $59:)
