Scan option on HP officejet 6310 won't work,
I have an printer that can't talk to the computer. It will print but can't scan or fax. It works on XP and Vista. I can't install all of the software due to this problem. Hp says they can't help because they don't support Win 7 yet.

You need driver for Fax and Scan. However, since HP does not release driver for that, I am afraid that we could not to such tasks with the printer on Windows 7 system.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Use the Windows Fax and Scan Feature. Click the Start orb, and type scan in the search box and select theWindows Fax and Scan utility. This workaround has worked for other HP all-in-one users. Give it a try.HP may or may not provide support for that model for Windows 7.The problem with troubleshooting is that trouble shoots back.

Thanks it works on USB but not on Network. In order for the windows FAX and Scan feature to work on Network the Printer has to be able to talk to the Computer. And no HP does not provide support for Windows 7 Ervin

Eaglecaller,How is the printer networked? Wired ethernet to a router or switch? If yes, are you saying Windows 7 will not find it when you use the add a printer, networked printer fromdevices and printers?Power off and disconnect the printer from the computer and/or network, uninstall any HP software, remove the printer fromWin 7 via the devices and printers window, right-click and select remove device.Connect to ethernet network, power it on. Go to devices and printers and select add a printer, networked printer. It should install and "talk" with Win 7.The problem with troubleshooting is that trouble shoots back.

I have been able to scan with my Officejet 6310 which is connected to my router via ethernet connection in Adobe Acrobat, but not in Windows Fax and Scan. I believe that the 2 programs require different scanning drivers. There should be some freeware programs that you can scan to - try looking around Google and see what you can find.Windows 7 RC dual booting with VISTA Home Premium 2 GB memory 160 HD Gateway Laptop HP Officejet 6310 All-in One inkjet printer Verizon FIOS Internet Connection

I have one that is wired and two that is wireless. And yes it's through a router. The Printer itself is wired.Windows 7 does find the Printer and will print to the printer

Have you tried the compatibility mode to install the printer software for Vista? The download page for the 32-bit Vista from HP is here. Thereis a critical connectivity update also. This is a situation where you'll most likely have to wait for HP to provide Win 7 support to get the full features/functions. I would email them and request support for this device/model. Can you initiate a fax and scan from the device? When you scan a document from thedevicewill it send to it the computer? The Windows Fax and Scan has been the only workaround that has worked on some all-in-one devices. Keep searchingthe Win 7 forumand perhaps someone will find a solution. The problem with troubleshooting is that trouble shoots back.

Yes I have tried the compatability mode and it will get to the part were the computer finds the Printer, all is fine. It then talks to the printer and waits for the Printer to talk to it, (No Way), It then stops installing. Next I try to do the same with-out Network (USB instead), Samething but in this mode I am able to install software. Now I can scan using FAX/Scan on the computer, but some of the software converts the Text into Text not PIC. The FAX/Scan only converts into PIC. So Now I contact HP, First they say we don't support WIN 7. So I write back and tell them I'm not dumb that I know they do maybe not yet. So I get an e-mail back said sorry about the first e-mail that they are working on it now and will have it out by the time WIN 7 is out. I did try to initiate a scan from the device and it tells me that it can't find the computers. but I can Fax from it. So now I am going to wait for HP to come out with the updated driver and hopefully it will work. I do have a program that will convert PDF into Text, not the best in the world but it works. Thanks for the help.

I don't think that this means that the drivers are available - it only means that the drivers will be available when Win 7 launches. Looking at the available drivers today, Windows 7 still is not listed as a supported o/s.Windows 7 Professional RTM 2 GB memory 160 HD Networked (wired and wireless)Gateway Laptop HP Officejet 6310 All-in One inkjet printer Verizon FIOS Internet Connection

Good news! HP has announced Windows 7 device support here. The Officejet 6300 series has downloadable software from HP. I did say device support. HP is definitely sitting on any releases until 10/22/09 or later. Better to know you can get full feature software than hope for it. Typo, should have been will have downloadable software.Sorry about that. Thanks.

There is a way for people to scan to HP in Windows 7. Click on START - DEVICES AND PRINTERS - highlight the printer you are scanning to - at the top of the window is an option "Start Scan". Click on START SCAN and it will open a new window with scan settings and a SCAN button. You can now change settings and scan your photo or document.

Yes it does work that way, but only scans with the document on the flat bed. It will not feed a document.
