Samba client, minimum requierd Samba version to open Windows 7 shares.
Hello, well if got a problem with a linux runningdevice. it has Samba version 3.0.23 installed but can not open shares on the Windows 7 machine.I tried to change network settings, security policies etc, no change.Access to the Windows 7 machine over network is possible by ubuntu 9.04, Mac 10.5, and XP. but not from this one machine which is using Samba 3.0.23.My guess is now that the Samba version is not compatible with Windows 7.Does anybody knows which minimumn requierment is neccessary to enter Windows 7 shares? Thanks for helpful information.

I was looking around for answers and I found information that you will need to enable NTLMv2 authentication to connect to Windows 7 shares. Apparently you do so by adding "client ntlmv2 auth = yes" to your smb.conf file. I don't know if that will fix your problem, but as far as I know, 3.0.23 should work with Windows 7 RC so it's got to be something other than the Samba version. -Nick

I'm seeing a similar problem but for me not only willubuntu 9.04 fail but WinXP too. Seconds after I begin a copy to the Win-7 box from Vista the SMB ports on the Win-7 box fail to speak to any older clients. I presume after Win7 detects either some newer encryption algorithm or SMB2 that it wont talk to my XP or ubuntu (presume win2000 and others too), but it will continue to work with Vista, Windows 7 and 2008 Server I've also now learned if I restart the Server Service on the Win7 box that I can then reconnect again without having to reboot the box, but I simple copy will make the Win7 fail again. Looking at the problem in Netmon I see the following: 9 4.976409 {TCP:5, IPv4:4} 10.0.0.253 10.0.0.158 SMB SMB:C; Negotiate, Dialect = PC NETWORK PROGRAM 1.0, MICROSOFT NETWORKS 1.03, MICROSOFT NETWORKS 3.0, LANMAN1.0, LM1.2X002, DOS LANMAN2.1, NT LANMAN 1.0, NT LM 0.12 10 4.976409 {TCP:5, IPv4:4} 10.0.0.158 10.0.0.253 SMB SMB:R; Negotiate - DOS OS Error, (8) NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY
