Samba as Domain Controller gets profiles in the wrong language
Hello, I am running a Primair Domain Controller on a samba LInux server. I have installed a WIndows 7 dutch version. When i log in on the Windows 7 computer on the samba server a empty profile is created, thats normal. All the items under WIndows are Dutch like mijn documenten(Documents) en mijn afbeeldingen (Pictures) But when i log out of Windows, the profile is copied to the Samba server and sudenly all the folders are English lik e documents in stead of mijn documenten, I know that WIndows is all English in the registers and there is a Dutch language layer above it. but where do i have to change the names in the register so Windows will sync folders in Dutch. I have already changed a couple of items in the register and now I have two folders Mijn documenten and Documents so I am on the right way but can somone help me so I can speeding up this problem? Greetings, Wouter

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem with a Portuguese Windows 7 Pro and Samba 3.5.7. Did you find a solution for your problem? Regards, Joao

And where is the problem? Fortunately MS has decided, that folder names are all in English regardless of your language settings or version in Win7. You can check that, if you look into properties of any file in your profile directory. Those profiles are stored on the samba server and loaded into your local profile totally transparent and if you are using any language version you find your file under the local filename in explorer in the local profile. But as soon as you use cmd.com you can only access the files via their native Englsh names. That is a big help if you or any user is using different language versions. It also helps management of multilanguage installations for different users, as you have only one place, where settings are defined regardless of language. The way it was before from WinNT to WinXP was really problematic, except if you had an international multilanguage version, which acted in the same way as it is now in Win7.Wolfgang
