Samba, Windows 7, Credential Manager and Saved Passwords
Hi all, I'm trying to get the Saved Username and Password I've added to Windows Credential Manager, to work with Mapped Network Drives, to Samba Shares. If I put the username and password in when prompted, then I can map the drive. If I don't put a username or password in the Map Network Drive (use alternate credentials) then the drive will not map. For reasons unknown, the username and password in Credential Manager simply will not work with our current setup. The credentials are saved in the format: Internet or network address: MYSERVER User name: MYSERVER\sambauser Password: sambapassword The behaviour experienced, is that when I try to map the network drive, without providing credentials manually, I am prompted for the credentials for the share. The strange thing here, is that the User name field is populated, as above, i.e. MYSERVER\sambauser... and the authentication box says "The specified network credential is not correct." Punching in the password manually seems to work. I've been going through the Group Policies being applied and have made the following adjustments, as part of a controlled test, none of which seem to have resolved the issue: 1. Network security: LAN Manager authentication level > Changed from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" 2. Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) > Changed from "Enabled" to "Not Configured / Disabled" 3. Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication > Is Not Configured. 4. Microsoft network client: Send unencrypted password to connect to third-party SMB servers > Changed from "Disabled" to "Enabled" 5. Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients > All settings here are off. I have read up a little on the settings under: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Credentials Delegation This seems to be on the right track, but I can't find any information on the SPN record syntax for SMB: Allow Delegating Saved Credentials Please note, the following is in place in this environment: 1. Users authenticate to Samba with a local username on the Samba box (cannot integrate with our AD, LDAP or otherwise.) 2. Users Samba credentials do not expire, so having the saved password is not an issue. If anyone can provide any advice on this entire issue, it would be greatly appreciated!Ian

Hi Milos, thanks for your reply. Can you explain what these settings do, and if they are able to be controlled via Group Policy?Ian
