Safety, Style and Search
Hi there.I have 3 points which for me would be reason enough to stop testing Windows 7 (and prevent myself from buying in future) and return to XP.Although I've searched the net for hours I couldn't find a (working) solution.Maybe one of You can help:I didn't find an option to reactivate the classic style of startmenu. Please don't tell me something about outdated or so. I HATE THE NEW STYLE. No discussion about that.NOT Microsoft should decide about that but each user for himself.I could not find any menu entry for "search for files"The real problem:I started a program which launched another program/driver for copy protection. As there was no relation between the called filename and the program started by me I denied access. Now I can't use my program anymore because copy protection fails. How can I reset the UAC (?) settings for the blocked program or maybe all blocked programs. There must be a (SIMPLE) solution because any input can be wrong - ERRARE HUMANUM ESTorHow can I disable the UAC in order to get the program running again.I rate usability higher than safety. I don't need a computer I can't use.If there are solutions please keep descriptions as easy as possible for English isn't my native language.

1. Sorry - that's the way it is. Just like when other OS vendors (like the one with a fruit in their name) update their UI and people move along with it. 2. It's not a menu entry - it'spart of the functionality of thestart menu that you hate so much! Tryentering some details in about the file you are looking for (e.g. part of the file name). Or launch explorer (Win+E) and use the search box on the top-right (with the magnifying glass icon). 3. UAC is not a bad thing; however if you have denied access for a program I don't know any easy way to get back (I'm sure there must be a way) - have you tried turning UAC off, and then back on again? BTW, English may not be your native language but your English is better than many people around here for whom it is native ;-) Mark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

I'm not sure that there is much to add on (1) and (2) but there is still an outstanding question on this (3) that we haven't managed to fully answer... does anyone have a suggestion for chms1968's question re: resetting UAC?- MarkMark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

Maybe edit the registry, find where it stores it's data and delete the entry. Yeah i know never gonna happen. Also you English may not be native but it is very good. better in fact than most native English speaking people. Any way I'm an Aussie so i don't speak English.

the other question is what is the copy protection that causing the problem? I know that TAGES is currently not compatible with windows 7, i also believe that starforce isnt compatible. Some other older copy protection systems just need a driver update to make them work with Vista and then they are fine in 7. I play a lot of games, and so far copy protection has been my biggest issue.
