Safely Remove Hardware, is it needed anymore with SD Cards and USB thumbdrives?
In XP the "Safely Remove Hardware" was required to flush any pending IO to the SD Card or USB drive but there had been discussions on improving that going forward so that there was less of a need to explicitly remove hardware before physically taking the SD Card or USB drive out. With Windows 7 ... is the Safely Remove Hardware step needed anymore with SD Cards and USB thumbdrives?

What this does is disable the file caching for that device which allows you to bypass the Safely Remove component. 1. Plug the device into the USB port.2. Open Windows Explorer, right click the device in the navigation pane and select Properties/Hardware Tab.3. Select the device in that list and click the Properties Button and then the Change Settings Button.4. Select the Policies Tab.5. Select the Quick Removal option.6. Click OK/Apply/OK. Hope this helps. What are the pros and cons to using Quick Removal policy? Is this a caching issue, so the disadvantage would be speed of transfer?
