SYSTEM Process run's at 95-100% continually.
This is a clean install of Windows XP Home Edition on a Compaq Presario Sr1820NX Tower. I have formatted and re-installed windows and have no programs loaded other than those that came with the restore disc from Compaq. After awhile of the computer being on, I will notice that the CPU fan is running at 100%. I hit ctrl-alt-del and view the processes and the SYSTEM process reports 95-100% usage. The computer has all of Microsoft's recommended updates including SP3. I have gone thru the add/remove programs and removed all the games and unnecessary programs. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Some driver or kernel mode component is running amok, or you are experiencing a hardware problem. To diagnose, check the behavior in safe modeor clean boot - does it exist there? To try to get more details about what's going on, run Process Explorer when the problem is happening. Sort the CPU column in descending order and note the process that is at the top. According to what you say, it is SYSTEM, with PID (process ID) 4. Then, double-click on the SYSTEM process and go to the Threads tab. Sort the list by CSwitch Delta in descending order. What is the full stack of the topmost thread at this time?
