SSL Request and Installation Procedure

Hi!

We need to use Lync from internet. We have Exchange 2010 and Lync 2013. Lync is working internally. We don't have an edge server for Lync. Can we still use Lync from internet. How can we generate SSL Certificate for Lync without an Edge Server?

Thanks.

You could only use Lync from the Internet with a VPN in that case, and federation would not work.  To use Lync from the Internet without a VPN you would need an Edge server and a reverse proxy to publish web access to your front end pool.

OK do we have to have a separate server to install Lync Edge Server on it and can we have some reference material for implementing this?

Thanks.

You'll need a separate server for Lync Edge, and a third server for the reverse proxy if you don't have a hardware load balancer or other reverse proxy you can use.  None of these roles can be collocated.

The above article is a reference article, here are a few more:

And you can use ARR as your reverse proxy if you'd like.
