SSH into windows 7 or xp machine
Greetings:
I would like to connect to a Windows 7 machine(Server) using a Linux machine(Client) or a putty client on another PC. Is this possible? I have tried to get port 22 forwarding enabled on windows 7. After the enabling I tried connecting to the server
using a linux os and I get the "connection refused" error, earlier I got "connection time out" error when I did not have the port 22 forwarded.
Oh and I would like to do this over the internet. I did get a hostname from DynDNS.org.
Thanks

Not with a plain Windows 7 installation. Windows does not include an ssh
server/service. You have to install and configure a custom SSH server -
e.g. freeSSHd.

Thank you! I was never able to do it with plain windows installation. I used winshhd(Install this on the server side) from bitwise, to login to windows machine from a Mac.
Though bitwise provides GUI: 'tunnelier' for the client side it is not required if you have putty on a PC and, if you are on a Mac you can simply use xterm window and simply ssh in to the server.
The good thing about winsshd is that it keeps a log of all the external computers trying to connect to the server and it is very accessible.
Anyways I can safely say that this problem has been solved!
