SP1 Game compatabilty ???
It does not seem to be a big issue, but I am getting more game crashes in SP1 than before. So far I have had issues with any of the FEAR games even in XP2 compatiblity mode. Also, Ridick Escape from Dark Athena dies with no error in game, but I have seen events that are recorded when it happens. And, it seems the live login app has an issue with my system, SP1 and itself. Before installing NO problems logging in, now, it does not even communicate with the cable modem. Comes up with INVVALID ID OR PASSWORD, guess what, it is the one I logged into to post this reply. Have tried new OS build with SP1 installed before any hardware drivers or apps. same result with the same programs, to me that points to an issue in the RC and those programs. If I am wrong, let me know how I can either prove or disprove this hypothesis, I would greatly apprecitate it. Since the Select forum Category DOES NOT HAVE the SP 1 RC forum listed, can someone please get it to the correct forum and let the web peeps know that it is not list? Some older games have had issues with Windows 7 even before SP1. I would check for driver problem. Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. After checking this issue, I would like to verify the following details: 1. Do you mean that you have got game crashes before install Windows 7 SP1 pack? If so, please update your drivers to the latest and check how it works. 2. Is there any information about game crash in the event records? 3. Could you login your applications on other computers via same user accounts? Meanwhile, I suggest you use screen keyboard to log in applications for test. Currently, if you have performed a clean install, and these issues still persist, it is recommended to perform a clean boot to see if we can determine the root cause. Hope it helps. This turned out to be a side effect of installing the 64 bit of office 2010 and trying to use FrontPage to update my website. From what I was able to determine after 3 days of testing is that the SP3 for office 2003, a 32bit app, tried to access or update a common windows file, as soon as that happened I started getting auto update errors on every update for office 2003 it tried to install. During this time 2 other issues appeared , 1. no matter what I did, I continually got the security message do you really want to open this file on my local drive exe's for apps that were either updated via internet or I had downloaded and installed via the internet. The 3rd was IE x would not allow any java app to run inside it's windows, of course Firefox did not have this issue. I finally fdisked the drive and reinstalled the OS, created a system image and proceeded to test this issue. If I installed the 64 bit of office and attempted to updtate, all the problems and errors repeated, I tried this once, then I installed frontpage and attempted to instlall the 64 bit of office. I recieved a message which was on of the biggest window I had ever seen. The gist of the message was, you cannot install office 2010 64 bit IF you have a 32 bit office app installed. I wish this error had been there on the other side of installing FP, the fix was unfortunately was to install the 32 bit of office 2010, then FP and all the updates installed correctly and I have yet to have any issue with either. You should consider an Office update as I believe Office 2003 is not supported with Windows 7 My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee. It's a mixed bag. Most Office 2003 version are Windows 7 compatible, but a few are not. Office 2003 is in the tail end of the extended support. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2488 Same as Windows XP, well into extended support. 2014 is not very far off now. Office 2003 is in the tail end of the extended support. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2488 Same as Windows XP, well into extended support. 2014 is not very far off now. I don't think there is a direct relationship between extended support and Windows 7 compatibility. Although Microsoft will end support for Office 2003, that fact will have no affect on the compatibilty of Office 2003 with Windows 7.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I have tested Office 2003 in a VM and it installed and ran fine. Now if some games are not working, I will need a complete list of the games installed and a list of the ones that are not working.
