SOLVED - windows update error 8007051a
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit When I try to install updates for Win 7 I am getting the above error code and updates do not install. I have done a clean boot - that hasn't worked. I have tried the renaming the pending.xml (or whatever extension it is) in windows\winsxs. I have rebooted with the Kaspersky rescue disk and it found nothing. Any other suggestions?

You may temporary disable the antivirus (Karspersky in your case) and firewall. Also please be assure that your router firewall do not block Windows Update. If the issue still occurs, please reset the SoftwareDistribution folder. 1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator. 2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Windows Update, and then click Stop. 3. Minimize the Services (local) window. 4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them. Note By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed. 5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window. 6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Windows Update, and then click Start. 7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. An installation may fail with error 1935 when an .msi file tries to install many policy files on a computer that has the .NET Framework 2.0 installed For more information, you may visit the link mentioned below: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946927 I would also suggest you use the System File Checker tool to fix the corrupted system files and check if you come across the same problem. Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. For more information on the System File Checker tool, you may visit the link mentioned below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929833 You may visit the link mentioned below to find a customer who came across the similar problem. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistahardware/thread/bf5c834a-6f79-4bd3-b1b4-d4fdd3fe4a28/ Hope this information is helpful.

I have tried the clearing of the Distribution folder, but that didn't work. I did the sfc /scannow option and that did not work either. Any more suggestions? I had even gone to the point where I have removed my antivirus to see if I could get anything and it didn't. I disabled the firewall and that also didn't work.
