SMTP option in DHCP
I really miss support of SMTP option in DHCP in current Windows OS and mail programs (like Outlook). For SMTP option reference section 8.14 in http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2132.html.Currently, almost every internet provider forces users to use their SMTP server in order to send e-mails. In era of notebooks, users are changing their locations quite frequently. It is quite inconvenient to manually change mail settings each time user moves (especially, if client like Outlook does not support global SMTP settings and they have many accounts, for example 10 is still possible). Therefore, I would love if Windows OS built-in DHCP client supports SMTP option and publish the result for mail programs like Outlook, Windows Mail or third-party clients. For security reason, I would be asked to confirm using the SMTP address for the first time I get it from DHCP. The dialog and opt-in behavior would be similar to Windows Firewall dialogs.I have had several discussions with various ISPs and they are open to start using SMTP option in their DHCP as soon as clients starts supporting it.

I totally agree with you. I have been struggling with smtp issues for years in the past, although often managing to find a solution. And at the moment (when not travelling) I'm lucky to have the same SMTP at home and at the office. I'm the local manager so I chose the right provider at the office ;-)But nevertheless it would be nice to have a solution to either discover automatically what SMTP is valid or if none, also to get to know it.I discovered an interesting feature today, the Location aware printing. I allows to set default printer depending on the network you are on. We just need a similar thing for the SMTP, and I'll be happy.Minimum: Allow to set SMTP according to networks where you are aware which one is valid (just like you know which printer is at home or at work).Better: Automatic detection of valid SMTP.The switch to the valid SMTP should of course be automatic in e.g. Outlook.
