SKYPE moved to Desktop and Slow Machine Results Windows 8.1

Hi All,

I am running a Lenovo G400 Laptop Windows 8.1 well maintained laptop running Avast Premium and regularly scanned for Performance Issues and Viruses.  All was well while Skype was living in the 8.1 Start Up Window [that I think is awesome BTW Microsoft] and recently I received the message that SKYPE had to be upgraded as it was no longer compatible with the Windows 8.1 Start Up Window and it had to be changed to the Desk Top Version :-(

Reluctantly, I installed the new version after a number of attempts as it really was a labour of love, I finally installed it so that I could teach a student that day.  [Hey guys can we include some kind of YES I will install this later - with a dead line?] Anyhow, ever since completing the installation I find that when I fire up SKYPE my computer becomes INCREDIBLY slow.  Today I wound up with 8 D Drive windows open as I must have clicked it several times thinking that I had not clicked properly.

Shut down SKYPE and I have my Lenovo back to normal [what a relief] .  I only just finished running MS Malicious Software Tool and all was green there as well.

It is bound to be something simple but I really need to fix this as I like using Skype and I have a student that uses it all the time.

Cheers,

Balisteve

Hi Balisteve,

Skype should be take too much system resource to affect its performance. I cannot confirm the situation so please test again to open Skype as long as Task Manager.

In More Details in Task Manager, you should able to find a tab named Processes. Find Skype and check for the CPU and Memory usage.

In the meantime please check if there is any other process which takes large CPU and Memory.

If it is Skype which causes the performance issue, test to remove it in Control Panel and do a fresh install to see if it makes any difference. You can get it downloaded from here:

Hi Shaon,

Thanks for your reply.

I did what you suggested and Yes the Skype program is taking up a lot of memory.  For your own reference you can take a look at the screen shot I took [I have sent it to tnmff@microsoft.com Attention Shaon Shan.  I did notice that the version of Skype is 32 Bit, I think, from memory, my Windows is 64 Bit - is this important?

Anyhow, I will re-install Skype as you have suggested and see if the re-install fixes the issue.

Hi,

I just receive the screenshot. 127MB seems a little larger than mine (71MB) but not seems like a big problem.

What's the size of your physical memory? You can also right click on Memory in Task Manager and choose Resource Values - Memory - Percent to show it in Percent.

Also as you have already trying to reinstall Skype, let us know the result.
