SFC /scannow dialog box asking for CD - XP Pro SP3 online upgrade over Dell OEM SP2
I'm trying to run sfc /scannow, and it fails at the point of asking for the system CD so it can load the dll files into the cache or directory where it wants them. Computer is a Dell workstation with Win XP SP2 re-installed from OEM disc, and SP3 installed from Windows upgrade online source. I've tried changing registry entries to point to the ServicePack Files in C:\windows to no avail. SFC just can't find the files. So, I'm getting that dialog box informing me that "Files that are required for Windows to run properly, etc" over and over. I'm combing through the many different versions of how to fix this found by Google search - what's the recommended fix here?2 people need an answerI do too

Hello xrayzebra Try slipstreaming SP3 into your XP installation CD.This will update the CD so that it matches your systemHere is a good tutorialNOTEThis process sometimes does not work with an OEM installation CD. I am not sure how successful you will be with a Dell installation CD.
