SEV1 Security Issue: Windows 7 automatically steals data from network shares using sync centre and offline folders without me asking
As indicated in this thread - Windows 7 automatically syncs all the data from a mapped drive whether you ask it to or not. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/1260985f-12c0-422c-9268-12846c6a263 Here is the problem... Windows 7 Vanilla Install (lets say on a Laptop) Map a Network Drive to another PC on the home network (in this case running Vista) Copy one file that I need to my Laptop (a driver) Windows 7 then automatically - without me selecting "Make Available Offline" starts to copy the ENTIRE Network share to the offline folders cache on my Laptop. That's like potentially my bank details, personal photos or whatever - all copied to my Laptop from my server without my permission or knowledge. This needs to be investigated and a fix developed ASAP. And the answer should not be to disable offline folders - I see no reason why I should not be able to select the folders I want to sync and have Windows not copy the ones I did not sync. Of course that is what I will do for now. Thanks in advance for your help with this... Adam
