SEFAUtil outputs nothing

Hello everyone,

I've installed SEFAUtil from the Lync Resource Kit using this http://blogs.technet.com/b/jenstr/archive/2010/12/07/how-to-get-sefautil-running.aspx HOWTO.

I've installed UCMA 3.0 on the computer running SEFAUtil. I've also created a trusted application pool and added sefautil to that trusted pool. The FireWall is disabled.

I've tried to run SEFAUtil width several params but I never get a response back. No error/access messages, just a blank line.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Thanks in advance,

Ceylor

Hi,

Do you use a dedicated server to run SEFAUtil?

Like article says:

When you run SEFAutil on a dedicated server you then need to install Lync Server 2010 on the server. You need to perform the following steps:

  • Install or Update Lync Server System
  • Install Local Configuration Store
  • Request, Install or Assign Certificates
  • Start Services

Then installing the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit Tools.

Hi Sean,

Yes I use SEFAUtil on a dedicated machine.  I have the OCS core installed on that machine. Not a full Lync Server System. I will try installing Lync Server and let you know if it solves this problem.

Try running from and Administrator command prompt.

This is probably the issue.

Cheers.

Hello Steve,

thank you for your answer. I tried it from an elevated command shell. Unfortunatley there still was no output.

Any other thoughts?

Gottfried,

I followed the same procedures and the only thing I found was running an elevated command prompt made a difference (it was a domain admin account).  If i do not, then I get no results.

I'd prob run:

     get-cstrustedapplicationpool -identity <poolname>

make sure that the poolname is correct / all the settings look correct here.

     get-cstrustedapplicationcomputer

make sure that the computer you are using shows up.  A pool should show the servers in the pool and the pool being listed underneath.  (I just installed it on my existing FE's in my pool)

And also make sure it is showing up correctly under the https://admin.domain.com  - check under "topology" and "Trusted Application" - make sure the urn is urn:application:sefautil

If you want to post the output...I can compare it to what I see on my server.

Hello Steve,

thank you for your posting.

The output of both commands seem ok:

I don't see anything incorrect.  Unfortunately, I don't know any more tricks.  :-/

Running on one of the registered servers and running in admin mode got it working for me.

Have you deployed a SSL certificate on the dedicated server for SefaUtil?

Can you see the dedicated server in the replication partners?

Anyone found the solution?  I have the same issue.  No output at all.

Thank you.

My setup for sefa looks like this

Identity                   : sefa.machine.net/urn:application:sefautil
ComputerGruus              : {sefa.machine.net sip:sefa.machine.net@domain.com;gruu;opaque=srvr:sefa

ApplicationId              : urn:application:sefautil
TrustedApplicationPoolFqdn : sefa.machine.net
Port                       : 5555
LegacyApplicationName      : sefautil

and of course you should see the same computer name in your trustedApplicationComputerlist

Identity : sefa.machine.net

Good stuff.  what was the r

Before you could use that tool, you have to prepare server.  You have to run the following on the Lync server:

  • Run Get-CsSite to get the Site name:

Identity        : Site:Contoso

  • Create a variable for $Site by running the following with your Site Identity specified. See the example for Contoso below:

$Site=Get-CsSite Identity Contoso

  • New-CsTrustedApplicationPool id lyncsrv.Contoso.local Registrar lyncsrv.Contoso.local -site $Site.SiteId

  • New-CsTrustedApplication ApplicationId sefautil TrustedApplicationPoolFqdn lyncsrv.Contoso.local Port 7489

  • Enable-CsTopology

Should work after that.

Thank you.

This did not solve the problem for me:

Setting the SQL permissions as detailed in this great blog did:

http://www.mylynclab.com/2014/04/sefautil-and-lync-2013-call-pickup.html

You have to create the CsTrustedApplicationPool ect.., but setting the SQL permission fixed the 'no output' for me
