SBS 2008 http://connect fails to find Windows 7 Users
I have installed SBS 2008 with all the service packs and rollup 4. When I attempt to use the http://connect app to connect workstations running Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit the app fails to list all users on the workstation so I can transfer their preferances. If there is only one user, the dropdown contains nothing. I have tried to connect 3 separate workstations, all running the same version of Win 7. The connect has failed to find the user on 2 out of 3 machines. On one machine in particular, it finds 1 user but not the other. According to the KB, this was a problem on some XP machines where the user profiles were "protected" but I can find no way to see if that is happening here. I can't see if the users are protected or not - they all have the padlock symbol, even those who are found. I am running as Administrator when doing the connection. Anybody know how to fix this? I'm in a bind. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. As far as I know, the procedure of connecting a client computer to the Windows SBS 2008 by using the internal Web site at http://connect/ only applies to client computers running Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista. For more information, please see: Automatically connect client computers to the network To connect the Windows 7 machines to SBS 2008, I found the following threads that may be helpful: connect windows 7 to SBS 2008 Windows 7 Pro RTM will not join to domain on Windows SBS 2008 BTW, I recommend you to post in Windows SBS forums for support as well. Thank you for the reply Dale. The update rollup 3 opened htt://connect to the Windows 7 OS. The XML was changed to recognise the OS. So it now runs on Windows 7 machines My problem is that the existing Windows 7 user profiles are not being discovered on the Win7 workstations and therefore cannot be migrated. Thanks for the link to the SBS Forum. I'll post there too. Murray

Please compare the discovered user profile with none discovered ones, and make some changes with none discovered user profiles and see if they can be recognized. Alternatively, you may use USMT or Windows Easy Transfer to migrate user profiles. Best Regards Dale Qiao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Thank you Dale. I chose the WET method to do the transfer and succeeded. However, it took more than twice as long, an important factor in my deciding whether to sell these systems. I believe this to be a bug in the http://convert utility. Thank you. Murray
