I have just installed Windows 7 on a new PC with a hotswap capable hard drive with AHCI enabled. Before conducting windows update where an updated AHCI driver was installed I was able to safely remove harware and remove the drive then reinstall it by clicking on drives in system properties and update installed devices. After this update the drive could not be found again until rebooting... what has happened here is there a new procedure or did this update remove the capability?
