Running several antivirus, antimaleware programs, MSE request after scan seemed strange. In need of advice.
Recently installed MSE was already running antivirus and antimalware free programs; Mcafee, Defender, Malwarebytes, Avira and weekly run of free live onecare safety scanner. Malwarebytes detected two files on 1st scan, they were quarantined. I deleted them. Contacted microsoft, they confirmed that they needed to be removed. Soon after( within a couple of days) I received lone update from microsoftto protect from remote usage of my machine. A couple of days later (today)I turned on my machine andsometime after MSE ran a scan a window opened and said that MSE detected two files and would I send report so the files could be examined. Is this standard for MSE, there was nothing reported in the scan or history items? The order that the programs were installed= Mcafee, Defender, MSE, Malwarebytes, Avira. Are there any conflicts or problemswith running this number of programs, besides the slower startup. Why didn't the other programs catch the 1st 2 bad files?Running xp pro on an HP Compaq, older machine.1 person needs an answerI do too

You have way too many security programs installed. More is not better. You should have one antivirus program installed. Of the ones you listed, I would recommend Avira first, MSE second, and McAfee not at all. Uninstall Defender and use the free version of MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, update it and run it manually. Don't bother with the Live OneCare online scanner either. After you've removed all the extraneous programs, go through the malware removal steps at the following link to make sure the computer is clean. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/Too_Much_Security.pdf http://www.getsafeonline.org/ https://www.mysecurecyberspace.com/ http://www.getnetwise.org/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/staying-safe.pdf MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

No. What part of "one antivirus" was unclear? ;-) Pick Avira or pick MSE, not both. Registry cleaning is not necessary. It is regrettable that Live OneCare had that option. Registry cleaners are snake oil at best; at worst they will damage MS Office and Windows itself.
