Running anti virus and firewall using Norton 360 but W7 is show they are not on.
The programs are running and in the Norton panel it shows that they are active. But I am getting the security flag on the task bar saying neither are on.

All versions of Norton are currently incompatible with Windows 7, except for their NIS 2010 beta. I recommend you immediately uninstall Norton to avoid having your system crash. I recommend using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (malwarebytes.org ), which works with win7 just fine.Hello! Norton seems to be working. It's windows 7 doesn't recognize it. Is it really a good idea to remove norton? What does the program you suggested protected? Doess it have the same features as Norton 360? I checked on their web site and it doesn't tell me much.

I and most IT Consultants do not like or recommend Norton. I do take it out of a lot of machines & replace it w/ something more appealing & desirable.A good suggestion for an A-V that does work very nicely on Windows 7, 32 or 64, is Avast. Avast offers both buyable versions & a free version for non-commercial use. I have used Avast myself & put it in clients' machines for years; it is good.http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.htmlFrom the above link you can also find the other versions, as well.Drew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Norton seems to be working. It's windows 7 doesn't recognize it. The whole point is Norton is incompatible with win7, you are lucky to get your Norton install as far as you have. Is it really a good idea to remove norton? Of course! I find Norton not useful anymore after finding out that viruses are designed to hide from big AV suites, like Norton or McAfee, so average Joes who have Norton or McAfee don't keep catching viruses. What does the program you suggested protected? Doess it have the same features as Norton 360? I checked on their web site and it doesn't tell me much. Yeah, it doesn't say much, but catches more viruses than I have seen Norton or McAfee catch, also it doesn't have the system slowdown the big AV suites are famous for! Those are the big selling point of an AV to me. I never have used Norton 360, so I don't know all of its features so I can compare them to you, but try Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware out! The scanner is free, but you must register to get proactive protection and automatic definition updates. (you can still check for updates manually) Also try Drew1903' suggestion too! Hello! I removed Norton already and can't try the steps you suggested. I didn't want to remove it becuase I still had almost a full year left on the sub. I am using it on my other 2 PCs so it's okay. I am using the Avast now it will do for now. Thanks.

Well done. I take Norton out of many client machines & they are always happy after it is replaced w/ Avast. Likely you will be likewise. And just call me Drew... the 1903 was added to satisfy MSN name availability way back when, lol Drew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Computer Issues
