Can you 'Runas' a different user other than Administrator in Vista? I use snap-in's to administrate AD function's and I don't login as the elevated user. I used to have a shortcuts to a couple of useful snap-in's and just runas the elevated user. Vista only gives me the option to runas administrator. This is no good to me, because the administrator of the machine I am using is not an administrator on the domain. I need to be able to runas 'DOMAIN\USERNAME'. How do I do this on Vista? Same commandline - Runas /u:domain\username Command. I have another question - I need to run IExplore.Exe under another account. So I type the following command Runas /u:AnotherUser IExplore.Exe and then enter password at the prompt. But all I get is a dialogue box with the error "The RUNAS Command Is not supported". Does anyone know how to make Vista runas IExplorer in another account. I can run it as administrator - but that will defeat the purpose I am trying to achieve.

Shellrunas doesn't seem to work with explorer.exe. Am I missing something or is it true that this will not work? If the latter, is anyone aware of a way to runas explorer.exe with Vista?Thanks.

I think it's very sad that Microsoft People didn't provide an easy Runas Domain\user option while they are advocating everyone to use there workstations without Administrator privilages. This really hinders me do so! I don't care about the commandline it needs to be in GUI.Why there is no ShellRuns in Vista by Default?

Yep this sucks, you run an MMC from a network share or you're home folder, since Runas is used the access to these folders is not valid in the admin context! I'm starting my admin mmc now from C:\Users\Public\ since all other locations give me access denied.

I am looking for the same thing and that tool does not work. It still runs under your own permissions. It never prompts for an alternate account.

Tthough this (C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user: domain\userid /SaveCred "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe") will run IE access is still denied when trying to run for example the System properties or when trying to uninstall from Programs and Features.Does anyone have a real commandline option for "runas". Did you actually test this? I still get the popup dialog that says "run as not supported". The only difference from what I'd been trying is /SaveCred. I'm also trying this with a non admin local user account.From another form post I found out that if you kill explorer.exe and then do this it will work...but you have to do it quickly before explorer.exe automatically recovers.Also, if I run iexplore.exe "Run as Adminsitrator" it will work and I get two IEs that can't talk to each other.We have an app that we need to login twice. Now we use a local instance of IE and one from Citrix. The application is ActiveX based and will detect the other login and log out both sessions... We'd love to get rid of Citrix, butI can't really have my users running IE as administrators.

Unfortunately, I am in this boat still only everybody is sitting on the upper deck while I am drowning in steerage.I have read everyone of the posts that popped in google and nothing is helping me out. I am simply trying to add a printer to this computer. Keeps coming back with the error that I need to log on as admin. I am. I use the compatability tab it is greyed out. I am not someone who wants to play with regedit. That would be computer homicide. I am using the factory disc. It is for a HP 6200 series printer.hp6210.
