Run logoff scripts synchronously -- Standalone Workstation
The following policy is available via scripts extensions on a server:Run logoff scripts synchronously Enable this option to run logoff scripts before the user logs off.The local group policy editor, gpedit.msc, does not include that policy. Is there anyway to implement it on a standalone workstation -- that is one that is not connected to a domain?

You may refer the following article for how to configure logoff script in Windows 7. Use Startup, Shutdown, Logon, and Logoff Scripts Arthur Xie - MSFT I've been through all of them. The question still is whether or not I can enabled the following policy on a standalone workstation and if so how:Run logoff scripts synchronously Enable this option to run logoff scripts before the user logs off.It would have to be through hack of some kind since the snap-in that handles it is only available if you are part of a domain.

In Windows 7 this policy is not present so we cannot enable it. Why would you like to enable this policy? Have tried to directly set the shutdown script in Group Policy?Arthur Xie - MSFT

In Windows 7 this policy is not present so we cannot enable it. Why would you like to enable this policy? Have tried to directly set the shutdown script in Group Policy? I don't need a shutdown script run. I need a logoff script to run before Windows sends close messages to running programs. I have a development machine that often has VMs running. I want them properly shutdown when I logoff or when Windows update decides to restart my machine. Therefore the logoff script that tells the machines to shutdown has to run synchronously. I am somewhat confused. The policy exists if the machine is connected to a domain. You can set the policy using GPMC if the workstation is connected to a domain. However, the policy is executed on the workstation. So is the policy object set in the workstation registry? If so what is the registry entry for it?
